March Movies to See

Vaccines are starting to roll out but theaters won’t feel safe to me for awhile. This month will mark a year since i’ve been to a theater. I miss it so much. It’s not the biggest thing. If I never saw a movie in a theater again I would be fine. But my life would be worse. The experience of being forced to sit down and focus on something with minimal distractions is something that is hard to recreate.

I want to see almost every movie in a theater but this month features only one that is most important. It will be obvious and come up later.

Let’s get started with some other smaller releases.

MARCH 5TH

Coming_2_America_release_poster.jpg

Coming 2 America - Written by Barry W. Blaustein, David Sheffield, and Kenya Barris & Directed by Craig Brewer - Starring: Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Hall, Wesley Snipes, James Earl Jones, Garcelle Beauvais, John Amos, Kiki Layne, Louie Anderson, Leslie Jones, and Jermaine Fowler

Eddie Murphy continues his mid life comeback with a sequel to his beloved 80’s movie. It never meant much to me but I am excited to watch it and then see this and hope I enjoy it.

BoogieRedPostermainimgbig59901a.jpg

Boogie - Written/Directed by Eddie Huang - Starring: Taylor Takahashi, Taylour Paige, Mike Moh, and Jorge Lendeborg

Coming of age story about a Chinese basketball phenom living in Queens who wants to play in the NBA but his parents want him to focus on academics. Classic idea but from a new perspective. I am looking forward to this one.

Chaos Walking - Directed by Doug Liman & Written by Patrick Ness & Christopher Ford - Starring: Tom Holland, Daisy Ridley, Mads Mikkelsen, Demian Bichir, Cynthia Erivo, Nick Jonas, Ray McKinnon, David Oyelowo, and Kurt Sutter

They shot this in 2017, reshot parts of it in 2019, and has rumored to be a very tough shoot and will most likely be bad just because rarely do things like this happen and it work. But there’s a big cast, and this was supposed to be the beginning of a trilogy. A world where there are no women and all living creatures can hear & see each other’s thoughts. I am expecting a hollywood disaster with a great cast but I hope it’s just good.

Pixie - Written/Directed by Barnaby Thompson - Starring: Olivia Cooke, Alec Baldwin, and Colm Meaney

A revenge heist movie that takes place in Ireland. I will watch Olivia Cooke do just about anything. I know almost nothing about this one. But her name is all I need to give it a try.

maxresdefault-3.jpg

Stray - Written/Directed by Elizabeth Lo

Following a dog through the streets of Istanbul and what it’s like to be without a home in the city. Similar to a movie a couple years ago called Kedi about cats, and now we get the dog version.

TrufflHuntersDoctrailermainLogo59.jpg

The Truffle Hunters - Written/Directed by Michael Dweck & Gregory Kershaw

A documentary about older Italian men who search for a rare truffle that has eluded them for years. I’ve heard this a delightful movie and I’m looking forward to it.

The Devil Below - Written by Stefan Jaworski & Eric Scherbarth, Directed by Bradley Parker - Starring: Will Patton, and others

Deep in the Appalachian mountains lives something terrible in a coal mine. A team of researchers go to find out what is happening there and encounter danger. It most likely is a bad horror film but I love the setting, idea, and Will Patton is a good enough actor to give me a reason to try.

MARCH 12TH

Honeydew-Signature-Entertainment-29th-March-Artwork-600x800.jpg

Honeydew - Written/Directed by Devereux Milburn - Starring: Sawyer Spielberg, Malin Barr, and Barbara Kingsley

Oddball horror that features strange cravings and hallucinations after a young couple seek refuge from a farmer and her son. I saw the trailer and it is going for a tone. There’s enough weirdness and ambition here I’ll give it a shot.

MARCH 19TH

574385-the-unbearable-weight-of-massive-talent-0-230-0-345-crop.jpg

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent - Written/Directed by Tom Gormican - Starring: Nicolas Cage, Pedro Pascal, Neil Patrick Harris, Tiffany Haddish, and Sharon Horgan

Nicolas Cage playing himself in need of some money takes a gig showing up to a billionaire #1 fan’s birthday party and becomes involved with the CIA and tries to be cast in a Tarantino movie. This sounds absolutely like something I want. Cage is always aware of what he’s doing and now he has something very fun that if they pull it off could be the action movie version of Being John Malkovich. This is the movie. I hope it actually hits this month and we can all enjoy it at home. I would pay 19.99 for it. I would pay more.

download-10.jpg

The Courier - Written by Tom O’Conner & Directed by Dominic Cooke - Starring: Benedict Cumberbatch

Cold War spy thriller about trying to end the Cuban missile crisis. It was previously called Ironbark and who knows why they changed it. Ironbark is such a great name that everyone remembers. Like right now, without looking, what was the old title of this movie? Ironbark. Of course it is.

Happily - Written/Directed by BenDavid Grabinski - Starring: Kerry Bishe, Joel McHale, Natalie Zea, Natalie Morales, Stephen Root, Shannon Woodward, Charlyne Yi, Breckin Meyer, Paul Scheer, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Brea Grant, Jon Daly, and Al Madrigal

A dark comedy about a great married couple out with friends and after something happens on their trip things start to go bad. The cast is full of good actors and comedians and I’ll be watching this one.

MARCH 26TH

5a874d3b636539625902673b6e86a3a5.jpg

Godzilla vs Kong - Written by Max Borenstein, Eric Pearson & Directed by Adam Wingard - Starring: Alexander Skarsgard, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Shun Oguri, Eiza Gonzalez, Lance Reddick, Kyle Chandler, Demian Bichir, and Ronny Chieng

I like this franchise even though it usually is a let down as a movie. I hope this one surpasses the last Godzilla movie that looked great but was stiff and not fun. I’m #TeamKong btw

nobody__2021__movie_folder_icon_by_nandha602_deadrv0-fullview.png

Nobody - Written by Derek Kolstad & Directed by Ilya Naishuller - Starring: Bob Odenkirk, Connie Nielsen, Christopher Lloyd, and RZA

Bob Odenkirk is now an action star. This is part of the simulation. The star of Mr. Show, funny side character on Breaking Bad, the man who utters the the most famous titular phrase in 2019 movies is leading wide release action movies. He is in great shape. He has abs. I love it. But, I also am designed to love it because of the simulation. I wish we could all go see this together and appreciate what is going on.

MV5BNGMxMjdjODItNDZmMi00ZjE2LWFmM2UtNDliY2E2MGQ0MjYwXkEyXkFqcGdeQWFybm8@._V1_.jpg

Bad Trip - Written by Eric Andre, Kathryn Borel, Dan Curry, Jenna Park, and Kitao Sakuri & Directed by Kitao Sakuri - Starring: Eric Andre, Lil Rel Howery, and Tiffany Haddish

The mix of silly buddy comedy road trip movie and hidden camera pranks in the style of Eric Andre’s show sounds like it may be hard to pull off but it also could be amazing. The worst part is this will hit netflix and we won’t get to see it with an audience. But, that’s how we live now and we still get to enjoy things. I love Eric Andre and I hope this makes us all laugh a lot.

z020921thetoll_poster_trailer.png

The Toll - Written/Directed by Michael Nader - Starring: Jordan Hayes and Max Topplin

A riding app pick up gets put on the wrong path as they are being chased by a supernatural entity. Another that might be bad but I’m all for ideas like this.
